Description
Created to make the preparation of an ethical will simple and fast, the Ethical Will Workbook will help you decidewhat to say and how to say it, and how to package it once you have completed the document. With the Ethical Will Workbook, you can complete your Ethical Will in a weekend!

The Ethical Will Workbook includes 7 easy-to-follow steps:

Step 1: What will your legacy statement look like?
The first part of this process is to decide what format you want to prepare: letter, poem, computer document, handwritten document, etc. The Ethical Will Workbook will explore these options with you.

Step 2: Who will read your Ethical Will?
A document read by a spouse will be very different than one that is read by or to children. Adult children will understand things differently than minors. The Ethical Will Workbook walks you through this part of the decision-making process to assist you in finding the appropriate voice for your document. You may want to write two or more different Ethical Wills - one for your spouse, parents, siblings, children, etc.

Step 3: What will your Ethical Will say?
When you look back on your life and forward into the future, there are so many issues to address it can be overwhelming. What are your core principles and how do you convey these to others? How does a young parent dying of cancer say goodbye? This section of the Workbook follows a questionaire format so it's easy to do. Your answers to these questions will provide you with the feelings and words to use in your final draft. Issues that are addressed include: Education, Family Life, Spiritual Beliefs, Community Involvement, Relationships with Nature and Pets, and Turning Points.

Step 4: Where do I start?
After considering your thoughts and feelings about your life, you will continue preparing your legacy statement by organizing your answers in the previous section. You may find common threads and patterns in your responses, and key issues and phrases that you want to include in your final document.

Step 5: Preparing your Ethical Will
Once you are comfortable with what you will include in your Ethical Will, it is time to write a rough draft of your legacy statment. Common formats are suggested and space provided for your statement. Keep in mind - you can use your answers to the questionaire as the final ethical will. You can then write a shorter letter to your loved ones to provide them with an overall sense of the core principlas you have just described.

Step 6: Final Copy
At this point, the final document is prepared and completed. The sooner you get it done, the better. Just remember how precious it is to have even a scrap of paper in the handwriting of a deceased loved one or distant relative, and how much more significant that paper would be if it provided words of wisdom. We all know how important those words are in difficult times. We like to remember 'What Mama would do..." and " What Grandpa had to say about that." In turn, your guiding principals are valuable lessons for someone else.

Step 7: Storage and Sharing
In this section, various options for sharing and storing your Ethical Will are explored. Included in the workbook is a form letter that you can fill out, date, and sign, to notify your attorney/loved ones that you have prepared an Ethical Will and when it should be read.

Who Should Prepare an Ethical Will?
Newlyweds, parents of all ages, and grandparents are especially encouraged to prepare an ethical will so that your loved ones have a permanent way of holding on to you after your death.

Parents: An ethical will is your opportunity to guide your children throughout their lives even after you leave them. Whether their other surviving parent or a chosen guardian will continue to care for your children after your death, you want to be sure your priorities and values are communicated to your children, and your parenting preferences are made clear.

Spouses: As a wedding or anniversary gift, a thoughtfully prepared ethical will is an appropriate and important document to prepare for your life partner.

Grandparents and Seniors: Everyone knows you have stories to tell, and years of experiences too valuable to forget. Give your future generations the chance to learn from you first-hand through your ethical will.
